Free breast cancer workshop

BAD AXE - McLaren Thumb Region Bad Axe will host a free workshop on breast cancer, Friday, Oct. 26, noon to 1 p.m. The speaker will be General Surgeon Julie Zachwieja, DO, who will give a free presentation, open to the public, on topics related to breast cancer prevention and new screening and treatment options. The event will be located on the third floor Distance Learning Classroom of the hospital at 1100 S. Van Dyke Road (M-53), Bad Axe. Trunk Or Treat, Oct. 26

SEBEWAING - Christ The King, 612 E. Bay St., Sebewaing, will host Trunk Or Treat, Friday, Oct. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with free games and treats. There also will be food concessions including soup, cotton candy and caramel apple bar.

Survivors of Suicide Support Group starting

BAD AXE - The Huron County Suicide Prevention Coalition is holding a monthly Survivors of Suicide Support Group (family and friends left behind after suicide), 119 S. Heisterman St., Bad Axe (across from the ballfields), from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27 (then the 3rd Saturday of the month). No cost; open group. Details: 989-975-0190.

Student essays due Oct. 31

THE THUMB - Local VFW auxiliary members remind all students that essays are due Wednesday, Oct. 31. Woman’s Life Chapter 912-Bad Axe, meeting, mission fair table

BAD AXE - Woman’s Life Chapter 912-Bad Axe will meet Monday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at McDonald’s Food & Family Center Deli. Nature Center Fall Fundraiser

PT. AUSTIN - The Huron County Nature Center Annual Fall Fundraiser will take place Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Nature Center. No Trick, Our Treat, Oct. 31

BAD AXE - On Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Bad Axe Free Methodist Church will serve free hot dogs and water for all of the trick or treaters and their families in downtown Bad Axe at 121 W. Huron Ave. (next to Muffler Man). Details: 989-269-8664.

Food pantry ornament fundraiser begins Nov. 1

CASEVILLE - The Caseville Community Food Pantry announces the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s annual ornament program fundraiser will begin Thursday, Nov 1 and run through December. Paper ornaments will be displayed in area stores for those who donate at least $1. Every dollar raised goes into the local pantry’s food bank account and will be used only to purchase meat and non-perishable food items for those in need who live in Caseville and Caseville and Lake townships.

Classical guitar concert in Port Hope, Nov. 3

PORT HOPE - There will be a Classical Guitar Concert with award-winning guitarist William Henry Russell performing Saturday, Nov. 3 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St John Lutheran School- Port Hope. A freewill offering will be collected.

4-H fundraiser, Nov. 4

KINDE - The Huron County 4-H Fall Family Social & Silent Auction will be Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. the Pasta House, Kinde, with a pasta and salad bar dinner. A portion of proceeds go to the 4-H program. The event recognizes 4-H members and adult and teen leaders. Guest speaker will be Genesee County Children & Youth Educator Darren Bagley. Event for 5-10-year-olds

BAD AXE - An event for 5-10-year-olds with Pumpkin Bowling, Fall Snacks, a Craft Time and a Bible Lesson Time will take place on Terrific Tuesday, Nov. 6 at First Baptist Church of Bad Axe, 120 N. Free Veterans Day Breakfast

HARBOR BEACH - Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 a free breakfast for veterans and their spouses will be hosted at the Harbor Beach Community School cafetorium, sponsored by the school and the American Legion Post 197. Cross Lutheran asks for help on Nov. 8

PIGEON - For the past 25 years, Cross Lutheran has shipped shoeboxes filled with gifts to children in need around the world through Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Organizers say, “We are inviting the entire Thumb area to join us in this rewarding endeavor. Last year, we sent more than 500 boxes! We are collecting empty shoeboxes, cash donations for shipping and new filler items like toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, school supplies, clothing and small toys. Donations can be dropped off at Cross Lutheran Church by Sunday, Nov. 4; or call 989 453-3953 for details. Join us on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the church‘s combination fellowship hall/gym to help pack shoeboxes and prepare them for shipping around the world. You will be blessed!”

Veterans Day Dinner, Nov. 10

HARBOR BEACH - Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 the Harbor Beach American Legion Post 197 will host a Veterans Day Dinner. Doors will open at 6 p.m. A catered dinner will start at 7 p.m. followed by a short program. Caseville Food Pantry schedule

CASEVILLE - The Caseville Food Pantry will not be open on Friday, Nov. 23, due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. The other Fridays of the month: open with deliveries being made on Nov. 9 & 16. The pantry will be open as usual on Friday, Nov. 30.
