Laker Science Olympiad team takes second place

Courtesy photo Courtesy photo PERRY - The Laker Science Olympiad Team had great success at an invitational hosted at Perry High School, Saturday, Jan. 13. The team took home its very first trophy at an invitational, ranking second place overall. Laker was the only school at the invitational to compete in all 23 events and place in 22 of those events. Another first for the team was numerous individual events earning first, second and third place medals.

Top event medal winners: 1st place: Mission Possible (Clara Tait & Meleah Timmons); 1st place: Mousetrap Vehicle (Brittany Richmond & Tyler Thoma-Bishop); 2nd place: Chemistry Lab (Hannah Hammond & Sarah Hammond); 2nd place: Tower (Grant Gascho & Tyler Thoma-Bishop); 3rd place: Astronomy (Andrew Smith & Grant Gascho); 3rd place: Experimental Design (Clara Tait & Meleah Timmons & Grant Gascho); 3rd place: Forensics (Brittany Richmond & Tyler Thoma- Bishop); 3rd place: Helicopter (Karly Cunningham & Abi Schuette); 3rd place: Material Science (Clara Tait & Meleah Timmons); 3rd place: Thermodynamics (Hannah Hammond & Sarah Hammond).

“I am so proud of our team and all the team work they shared getting ready for the competition season,” said Science Olympiad coach Deb Hasselschwert.

The team’s next competition is Saturday, Feb. 10 at Frankenmuth High School.
