Thumb Ag Day, Dec. 13 in Ubly

UBLY - The 2017 Thumb Ag Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Ubly Heights Country Club in Ubly. The day features educational programming and a chance to visit with the 82 agribusinesses exhibiting at this year’s program. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and remain open until 3 p.m. for participants to view exhibits and attend educational programs.

Beginning at 9:15 a.m., join Dennis Stein, MSU Extension District Farm Management Educator, Emeritus: “Making production costs fit todays markets” followed by the always popular “Commodity Market Update” with Dr. Jim Hilker, Professor, Michigan State University Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Economics at 10 a.m.

At 10:45 a.m. “Ways to combat nutrient transport from agricultural fields to downstream water bodies” will be presented by Dr. Ehsan Ghane, Assistant Professor, Michigan State University Department of Biosystems Engineering.

The afternoon session will round out the day starting at 12:45 p.m. with “Ag Review: Results of this year’s field trials including an update on glyphosate resistant marestail” by Area Field Crops Extension Educators. RUP and CCA credits are pending from the Michigan Department of Agriculture.

Lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. and is optional at $10 per person, admission otherwise is free.

Thumb Ag Day is sponsored by Michigan State University Extension and supported by the area’s agricultural businesses.
