Man arrested for assault, resisting police

UBLY - Ubly Police Department Chief David W. Rothe reported that on Saturday, Dec. 2 at approximately 11 a.m. Huron Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a suicidal man with a gun at a residence on McAllister Road. Ubly Police Officer Matt Blaine was dispatched to the complaint along with Huron County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Gabe Callender.

Officers arrived on the scene and after a brief struggle were able to arrest a 36-year-old male Ubly resident. A rifle was also recovered at the scene. Officers then found a 35-year-old female Bad Axe resident was the victim of a domestic assault. She was transported to a hospital for additional treatment of her injuries.

The Ubly man was arrested for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and resisting and obstructing a police officer. He was lodged in the Huron County Jail. A search warrant of the residence revealed an inside illegal marijuana grow operation. The man faces additional charges stemming from the illegal drugs found at his residence.

The Ubly Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Bingham Township EMS and a towing company.

The man was scheduled to be arraigned that following Monday.
