Bad Axe Man dies after being pinned by log

MEADE TOWNSHIP - Huron County Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson reported that on Wednesday, Nov. 29 shortly before 5:30 p.m., the Huron County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies responded to a residence on Lackie Road in Meade Township, where CPR was being administered on a man who had been pinned by a log. Unfortunately though, those efforts were not enough to revive the victim. Though preliminary investigation, responding Deputy Warren Kuhl learned that Philip E. Zoldos, 58, of Bad Axe, was cutting wood near a pile of long wood when a large piece rolled onto him and pinned him. He had last been seen cutting wood approximately 20 minutes earlier by his wife, Patricia, who had gone into the nearby house of homeowner Steven Vaughan. When she came out to check on him, she found him pinned and called for help from Steven. Steven immediately got a forklift and got the log off of Philip, then began CPR. The Kinde Area Fire Department Responded, as well as Central Huron Ambulance Service but, sadly, Philip was pronounced dead around an hour later. The Huron County Medical Examiner’s Office ordered an autopsy.
